Even though Thanksgiving is now over, we still have so much to be thankful for, don't we?  On this first Sunday in Advent – the beautiful season when we prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of Christ – we are reminded to place our hope in Him. He is our firm foundation and the Anchor which holds us fast. He came to give us hope – hope of a life forever with Him. Christ, the ultimate sacrificial Lamb, willingly took our sins upon His shoulders to set us free! What an incredible gift! No longer are we chained to our pasts or burdened with an uncertain future.

“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary” (Hebrews 6:19).

When we place our hope in Him, we will never be disappointed.  The things of this world will come and go, like sand slipping through our fingers.  But Christ and His promises are trustworthy and unchanging.  He tells us that no matter what happens in this world, when we place our hope in Him, we are secure.  And that security…that hope…gives us peace of mind and heart.

  9. Nice to read. Yes, there's beauty in Advent. That scripture is worth gold (Hebrew 6) So thankful Christ and His promises are trustworthy and unchanging!

The winter season in West-Europa here is cold and dark. At five o'clock we eat by lamplight. Because it's dark outside. I think that it is therefore such a great blessing for me, I can study Bible verses on the Great Light of the World in this dark Advent time.

  13. I love that verse! I love the analogy of our hope being strong and trustworthy as an anchor. As you know, I love boating and sailing, so I know how important having an anchor is, especially on a windy day! An anchor can mean the difference between being tossed and moved all over the lake and staying in one spot, safe and secure! I'm so thankful that He is our anchor!!

  18. I find it interesting that we celebrate Christmas in the middle of winter when much of the world experiences short days and long, dark nights. I don't think that is a coincidence. Instead, I think it is an opportunity to shine even brighter for Christ! His light will brighten all the dark corners, won't it? Blessings to you this Advent! In Him, Joan
