As children, we tend to laugh freely and play often, but unfortunately, as we grow and mature, the frequency with which we lose ourselves to joyful abandon sadly diminishes.  I suggest that doesn't have to be the case.

I’m sure you've heard it said that “Laughter is the best medicine.”  Modern pharmaceutical companies may want to disagree, but there really is something to that phrase.  Laughter lifts the spirits, energizes us and changes the mood of almost any situation.  To me, that sure seems like a great remedy for our tired bodies…or marriages!

“A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired” (Proverbs 17:22, msg.)

Don’t underestimate the power that play has in your marriage.  Roy and I have discovered that doing things that we enjoy together is a great way to connect.  Even silly play that results in laughter has become a wonderful part of our relationship.  We enjoy many things together, but there is one rather ridiculous game we began a couple of years ago.  I’m not sure how it started really…however, I’m glad it did, for we have had many, many joyful moments because of it...To continue reading, please join me over at Water to Wine Marriage

  3. Love this: "Laughter lifts the spirits, energizes us and changes the mood of almost any situation. To me, that sure seems like a great remedy for our tired bodies…or marriages!" I couldn't agree more! Sometimes I have to beg my husband to stop making me laugh - but yes, the exercise invigorates!

  4. What a hoot, Joan! (Or maybe peep, peep??)

A great idea - having fun together is a great way to bond. When my husband and I were remodeling our old house we had this rubber rat that we used to hide around the house. It was quite fun - as most of the time, I was *unsettled* by its appearance, and had to reassure myself that it was indeed the FAKE one!

    GOD BLESS!

  5. Oh, the power of play- YES- my husband and I just rediscovered that when we spent a week hiking together and laughing and just doing two-some things-- an incredible treat as parents of five who are used to playing Candyland with preschoolers rather than focusing on playing together.
