I have a rabbit weathervane in my garden. It stands as a silent sentinel over my newly planted flowers and the rose bushes that are just beginning to show their spring leaves. I don’t know why, but I love this wooden rabbit. I have carried her with me from place to place for the past several years. She is decorative and not a true weathervane, as she doesn’t spin in the wind. So, each time I have put her in amongst my flowers, I have purposely positioned her facing north. Sometimes, this means that the “N” for north, is actually reversed. However, I know that every time I look at her, no matter how hard the wind is blowing, she is running in the right direction…toward her true north.

What is your “true north”? As humans, we so often look for guidance in the wrong places. We go our own way because it seems right at the time, or it appeases our own desires. We also look to other people or even things for direction. However, these choices can often lead us astray. There have been occasions in my own life when I have been swayed by popular opinion or misguided advice. And when those times have not lined up with what God’s word says to be true, the direction I faced always led me into a storm. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

God’s word has an answer for every question we may have. The advice He gives within its pages is as relevant today as it was centuries ago. This amazing phenomenon occurs because our God is constant! He is not swayed by what seems popular at the time. He knows what is best for us because He made us! He never changes. We can count on Him to always be trustworthy and sure. “For I am the Lord, I do not change” (Malachi 3:6).

God is our guiding light and our constant compass. With Him, we have accurate directions that will always lead us down the right path. It is only when we look away from our True North that we become lost. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you” (Psalm 32:8).

And praise God! He is also a compassionate and merciful God! When we go astray and become lost on the wrong path, He will always lovingly guide us back along the road of truth. We only need to turn our eyes to the Lord and move forward in the right direction -- running toward Him, our True North.

Running toward Him,
