On this first Sunday in Advent – the season when we prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of Christ – we are reminded to place our hope in Him.  He is our firm foundation and the Anchor which holds us fast.  He came to this earth, lived and then died among us in order to provide a way to bridge the gap between us and God.  He came to give us hope – hope of a life forever with Him.  Christ, the ultimate sacrificial Lamb, willingly took our sins upon His shoulders to set us free! What an incredible gift!  No longer are we chained to our pasts or burdened with an uncertain future.

“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary” (Hebrews 6:19).

When we place our hope in Him, we will never be disappointed.  The things of this world will come and go, like sand slipping through our fingers.  But Christ and His promises are trustworthy and unchanging.  He tells us that no matter what happens in this world, when we place our hope in Him, we are secure.  And that security…that hope…gives us peace of mind and heart.

  1. Yes! Our hope is more than just thinking something might possibly happen. It is “knowing” that it will happen...And now our hope is in His future return to take us home. Spend this first Sunday in Advent reveling in the hope of that truth!

  2. Amen! This hope is an anchor for my soul!

  3. Praise God that our hope is not just wishful thinking, but the joy in knowing that we are His children and will live forever with Him! Thank you for the inspiring post and photo.

  4. Yes - He is our blessed hope. No matter what else happens in this world, He never changes.

  5. Hi Joan - I love the acronym you use here: Holding Onto Peace Everlasting. So good

  6. The hope He gives us IS everlasting, and by His wonderful grace we are secure in His love!

    Lovely post Joan! :)

PS...linked up twice by mistake and couldn't figure out how to remove one!

  7. Like you, Joan, I'm never letting go of the Lord Jesus - He's my everything!

    Have a blessed week,

  8. A wonderful reminder for the beginning of Advent. He is my anchor too. Happy belated Thanksgiving to you!

    Blessings and love,

  9. Seems like HOPE has been a theme today! I've read several blogs talking about it - and the sermon yesterday at church was all about it. Praise the Lord! We can base our hope on what a faithful God has done in the past, and on what a trustworthy God will do in the future.

In the meantime, God keeps us secure!

(P.S. Loved the acrostic! Might have to add that to Sharon's Acrostic Dictionary!! :)

  10. "trustworthy and unchanging"

What comfort and joy there is in knowing Him!!
    Thank you Joan!!
